Indonesia Marine National Parks: Real Definition of Beauty



Indonesia is already known as paradise on earth. The beauty of its nature is breath-taking. As maritime country, Indonesia has 5.8 million square kilometres of sea territory and only 2 million square kilometres of land territory.Indonesia has become the 6th Most Beautiful Country in the world by the Rough Guides survey in 2017. The magnificence of Indonesia’s coral collection was also making Indonesia as the Best Diving Destination in 2017 by Dive Magazine. From Sabang to Merauke, Indonesia offers you glorious scenery under the sea from Indonesia marine national parks.




Four Indonesia marine national parksis located in the middle of Indonesia, Sulawesi. Sulawesi has fourmarine national parks; they are Kepulauan Bunaken, Wakatobi, Togean, and Taka Bonerate. Bunaken is placed in North Sulawesi. Bunaken is close to the centre of Coral Triangle, making it has more than 350 species of coral reef and various marine biotas. Bunaken represents the tropical water ecosystems in Indonesia including coral reef, seagrass plain and coastal ecosystems. Bunaken marine habitat is 97% of 100% total. On the other hand, Wakatobi Marine National Park also offers beautiful marine. Wakatobi is placed in South-East Sulawesi. Wakatobi has become one of coral reefs and marine biotas like stingrays and whales conservations centre.  Wangi-wangi Island, Kaledupa Island, Tomia Island, and Binongko Island are islands that create the name of Wakatobi. Besides, Kepulauan Togean is an archipelago sited in Central Sulawesi. 

Togean has 66 small and big islands. Togean is also one of the Coral Triangle’s ecosystems. Togean has been a conservative habitation to protect its rare corals. To get to Kepulauan Togean, you need to go to Ampana or Gorontalo then take a boat to Wakai, Malenge, or Dolong.  Taka Bonerate is located in South Sulawesi and has been the 3rd largest atoll after Kwajifein in Marshall and Suvadiva in Maldives There are 15 islands in Taka Bonerate Marine National Park, which is ideal for snorkelling and diving. Taka Bonerate can be reached by airplane from Sultan Hasanuddin Makassar International Airport to H. Aroeppala Kepulauan Selayar Airport. You can also go to Bulukumba from Makassar then take a ferry for 2 hours to Kepulauan Selayar Harbour. After that, you go for a road trip to Kota Benteng.

Aside from Sulawesi, the beauties of Indonesia marine national parks continue to fondle our eyes. In the east of Indonesia, they have Teluk Cendrawasih, Cendrawasih Bay, West Papua.The park is the number one marine national park in Indonesia. The area is about 14 thousand square kilometres with 89.8% water territory, 5.5% coral habitat, 3.8% land territory, and 0.9% coastal area. The park is included to Coral Triangle region and the representative of coral reef ecosystem, beach, mangrove, and tropical forest in Papua. There are more than 200 species of fish living in Teluk Cendrawasih including butterflyfish, angelfish, damselfish, parrotfish, rabbitfish, clownfish, and sharks. Teluk Cendrawasih can be grasped by flying to Biak then continue flying to Manokwari or Nabire. After that, take a longboat from Manokwari to the national park (Rumberpon Island) for 5.5 hours or take a road trip from Manokwari to Ransiki City for 3 hours then take a motorboat for 2.5 hours.
